Description

The Yankees came out on top of a true slugfest this day at home in the Bronx, topping the Minnesota Twins by a score of fourteen to eleven. The Hit Man accounted for a portion of that offensive onslaught with the use of this OAL (Brown) ball, which represented the one-hundredth time that Easler had sent one over the wall. Easler was wise enough to direct this milestone ball into the Yankees bullpen, where his teammates were easily able to retrieve the memento for safe keeping. Adding to the thrill for a man who describes himself in his handwritten letter of authenticity as a “non home run, gap to gap hitter” was the fact that several legendary Yankees were present at the ballpark that day. The side panel of this well-used ball was notated in Easler’s hand, “100 Home Run, April 29, 1986 vs. Minnesota”, and subsequently signed in 8/10 or better ink by the following Yankee luminaries: DiMaggio (ss), Mantle (flatteringly inscribed “Nice Goin”), Reggie, Houk, Richardson and Hector Lopez. Mike’s lengthy letter of authenticity is almost as intriguing as the ball itself.
