Description

In 1987, Gary Sheffield was assigned to Stockton of the Class-A California League, where his defense improved and he produced at the plate. His batting average went below .300, but he led the league in RBIs with 103, and at the end of the year he was voted the Brewers’ best prospect. In his third season, he went from Double-A to the majors. In 134 games for the El Paso Diablos and Denver, he batted .327 with 28 homers and 118 RBIs.

Presented is a Gary Sheffield game worn batting practice jersey from his time with the El Paso Diablos in 1987. The red mesh pullover features the “EL Paso” logo script across the chest in yellow/white. His number “34” is on the verso also screened on heat transfer in yellow/white. Tail tagging includes “W. A. Goodman & Sons” [size] “42″ as he was much slimmer back then in the Minors. Overall, it shows moderate use with wear on the identifiers and tagging from multiple washings and field wear. The jersey was awarded a high grade from MEARS as an A10 and includes a letter from the El Paso Diablos team as additional provenance.
