1987 N. L. Champion St. Louis Cardinals Team-Signed Ball (22 Sigs. w/Willie McGee, Herzog, Smith etc.)

For the third season in the decade, the Cardinals of ’87 claimed the summit of the National League. Though St. Louis rostered a fine pitching staff, this team was characterized by speed afoot. For that matter, the regular lineup had only one .300 hitter in Ozzie. At some point in that pennant-winning campaign, 22 of them converged to pen their autographs to this ONL (Giamatti) baseball. And of those, there’s one that we can’t discern (due to hasty penmanship). They are clean signatures throughout (“9-10”), but particulary welcomed on this ball is the penning of Willie McGee, who generally skirted the tacit obligations of providing autographs. Skipper Whitey Herzog inked the sweet spot, and the troops who followed then include Jose Oquendo, John Morris, Terry Pendleton, Rod Booker, Bob Forsch, trong>Ozzie Smith, Lee Tunnell, Todd Worrell, Jack Clark, Tony Pena, Steve Lake, Erie Pa.’s Tom Lawless, Steve Peters, trong>Willie McGee, Dave Ricketts, Johnny Lewis, Joe Magrane, Vince Coleman, Greg Mathews and John Tudor. That the ball dates to 1987 is demonstrated by the inclusion of Booker and Clark whose careers crossed that season only.
