Description

The mid ’80s were a tumultuous time in sports. Two rising stars Len Bias (freshly drafted by the Celtics) and Don Rogers (a highly regarded Browns safety) died from cocaine overdoses. Such tragic headlines prompted a movement against drugs explicitely cited by the NFL. The Los Angeles Rams pitched in when they wore “Drug Use is Life Abuse” vinyl patches during the strike-shortened 1987 season. This particular size “46” jersey was worn by Tim Tyrrell in 1987 – the same period (’86 and ’87) when he was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate. Tremendous use is visible as at least 11 team repairs are evident throughout the all-mesh garment. The numerals also reveal plenty of impact marks. Both shoulders are peppered with repairs. Built-in pockets appear on the front. Dual Sand Knit tags (exclusivity/size) are sewn into the tail.
