1989 Dan Marino Game-Worn (vs. Patriots), Signed Dolphins Jersey (w/Fred Marion Letter)

Dan Marino and Patriots safety Fred Marion’s relationship dates to All-America functions the two attended during their college days, and on Dec. 10, 1989, the two met again at Joe Robbie Stadium. That day, Marino wore his aqua #13 and Marion his #31 in Patriots’ red and white. Dan got the best of Marion and the Pats DB’s as he threw for 300 yards in a 31-10 victory. After the game, Fred retrieved Marino’s Dolphins jersey to display along with Danny’s fishnet Pitt jersey that he’d received nine years earlier.

That very jersey is now proudly offered by AMI after years of display at Marion’s tavern. The highly sheened aqua mesh jersey has a finely ribbed knit V-neck, spandex side panels, custom-cut and hemmed QB sleeves, custom underarms, and the requisite extra length. The lower left front tail sports the Wilson Prestige label with dual flag tags – one denoting size 48, the other a factory code. Beneath the left sleeve logo is a Wilson “W” logo, straight stitched, as was standard. The triple-color numerals are correctly fonted, as is the NOB. The jersey’s best feature is the “caked brown dirt” from the Joe Robbie turf which appears the right upper corner of the nameplate, the right shoulder seam, and the upper section of the right sleeve logo. There’s also a faint left shoulder ding and a trace of Patriots red helmet paint on the top of the front number.

At last! … a Marino with wear and solid provenance.

The jersey comes with an LOA from Fred Marion and a picture of the jersey hanging in Marion’s tavern.
