1991 #7 Game-Worn Atlanta Falcons Helmet
Out of stock
The Falcons 25-year run with their inaugural and traditional red helmet ended in 1989. “Black” was in for 1990, both for jerseys and helmets.
M. C. Hammer was on the sidelines, Deion ‘Prime Time” was dancing the return game and stepping with WR’s, and it was a new era, as represented by this helmet.
The Riddell headgear sports the Falcons’ logos on each side of the outer shell. The lower back sports the NFL shiel, a correctly fonted non-die cut numeric identifier (7) and a white on clear warning sticker. The NFL shield and warning sticker are germain to ’91 and forward.
The shell’s interior sports VSR-1 padding and a 1991 recon sticker.
It would appear that the shell was worn in camp in 1990, perhaps by a #83 (83 is marked into the shell), then worn by Hugh Millen later in 1990. The helmet was reconditioned, the NFL shield and newly styled warning sticker added, and used until Millen was traded to New England and perhaps thereafter by a non-roster player.
The helmet is missing a plain white vinyl cover on the back bumper which was worn in 1991 (in ’90, a custom bumper with stylized FALCONS print was used).
The wear, both interior and exterior, is consistent and exemplary. The mask clips and chinstrap are original. Nice style, even though its usage is difficult to establish with regard to player specificity, though Millen would be the most logical choice.
