1992 Dream Team Olympics Larry Bird Game-Used Shoes Signed Barcelona Celtics COA 100% Authentic Team Provenance.
PROVENANCE: This patriotic pair of Converse high tops, bearing Bird’s Dream Team number “7,” were given directly to an NBA source. We have verified and can attest to the NBA source working with the Celtics and Larry Bird during this era. Each shoe was autographed for him in black felt tip on the toe box (“9”). And according to the provenance, this particular pair was used in Bird’s last Olympic game.
The supreme significance of the team, and the minimal supply of game-used gear to enter the hobby in the twenty-seven years since have identified any such auction offering as a special event, and we’re pleased to present this opportunity. Converse Shoes were the hottest shoe on the court during this era.
Much like this year (2021), the Summer Olympics is in focus. One of the greatest basketball teams to ever come together for the United States in the Summer Olympics was in 1992 in Barcelona. They were deemed the “Dream Team” and there simply has been no other to compare in talent as they steamrolled competition to achieve the gold medal.
Despite his bad back, Larry Bird fought through the pain to participate in two games during the Dream Team’s Olympic gold medal run. Presented is a pair of custom red, white and blue Converse sneakers that Bird wore during that remarkable time in Barcelona. The sneakers are the same style he wore during the ’92 games and USA basketball practice.
The interior sports a simple Converse label, “Official Shoe of the NBA” on each tongue. They also bear Bird’s Dream Team number “7,” in blue on the outsole near the upper portion.
The sole portion of the shoes measures 13″. The SOLES if they were attached would have added an inch to the shoe size. Only a simple “Converse” label appears inside the sneakers, at each interior tongue, but the shoes are correct for Bird’s size fifteen feet. His custom insoles have been removed. Game wear is evident with creasing, scuff marks, and both show heavy degradation to the rubber sole as they are missing, as is typical for this style of aging sneakers.
The shoes perfectly match every specification. Overall, a tremendous rarity that showcases a moment in Larry Bird’s fabulous career and the significance of the team to U.S. sports history.
