1992 Mike Munchak Game-Worn Oilers Helmet (Also Worn in Pro Bowl)
Out of stock
Description
For Mike Munchak, a trip to Honolulu was almost a yearly occurrence. During his dozen years in the NFL, Munchak earned nine trips to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. Considered the preeminent blocker of his time, Munchak was equally adept at pass or run blocking. For his efforts, the Scranton native was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
Originally obtained from a former NFL equipment manager, this Houston Oilers helmet was worn by Munchak during the 1992 regular season and also in the Pro Bowl.
Decent use is exhibited on the white shell with a few gouges, surface scratches and green turf paint remnants. Houston’s oil derrick emblem stickers adorn the outer shell sides. Leather jaw pads are captured beneath the inner ear holes. AF-2 padding is intact on the interior. A "63" Columbian blue on clear sticker is secured on the inner crown for identification purposes. Also present is a 7 1/2 size sticker and an additional warning sticker. The back bumper has an Oilers custom printed logo, and it is joined by an NFL sticker and a red on clear warning label. Clear, but color degraded clips hold Munchak’s 1992 dated mask (with gashes) in place, and his double low hookup "hard cup" chinstrap remains with a markered ’63’ identifier and customized inner cup padding.
Overall, a fine Oilers helmet honoring one of its most consistent, great and unsung performers.
