Description

Frank Tanana signed as a free agent with the New York Mets for the 1993 season. The Mets were interested in him partly as a mentor for left-handed prospect Pete Schourek. Tanana’s manager with the team, Jeff Torborg, was his catcher in his MLB debut in 1973. He won seven games for the last-place team but lost 15 (tied for 6th in the National League (NL)) before being traded to the New York Yankees for Kenny Greer on September 17, as the Yankees sought pitching help in an attempt to capture the AL East pennant. Tanana lost two of his three starts for the Yankees, and they did not reach the post-season.

Frank Tanana wore this [size] “44” road New York Yankees jersey in 1993. All of the identifiers including “NEW YORK” on the front and his number “31”  on the back are applied in two-color white/navy tackle twill. On the left front tail is the “Russell” manufacturers tag with wash instructions and jersey size “44.”  Attached is  a flag tag (Intera) and above is a year strip tag with “1993.”   The jersey shows great game-use with notable thread fraying on the identifiers. Note, there’s some wear on the sleeve end where it looks like something was removed (memorial band?).
