In 1992, Melido Perez would see a turn for the better. That year he had his best year statistically, by striking out 218 batters – second in the American League behind Randy Johnson. He also averaged third in the AL with 7.922 strikeout average per 9 innings. He also maintained a 2.87 ERA. His career ended with the Yankees at the end of the 1995 season after a tear in his right throwing elbow.
Presented is a game worn jersey from Perez’s time with the Yankees in 1993. The gray knit jersey is lettered “New York” across the front and features the number “33” on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in navy on white tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a “Russell Athletic Diamond Collection” label [size] 46, an adjacent “’93” year tag, and a flag tags bearing 2″ extra length and fabric. A Major League Baseball patch appears on the rear collar. Jersey also shows some soiling on the back shoulder.
