Nolan Ryan defied Father Time as did his heroic right arm. As his career was winding down, Ryan returned to his roots as the flamethrower from Alvin, Texas latched on with the Rangers. Presented is one of his game worn gloves from his swan song season with Texas. It is a Rawlings professional model PRO-2BF fielder’s glove displaying evidence of light use. The even wear can be seen in the pre-oiled pocket and web crotch.
It is constructed of Rawlings “Heart of the Hide” tanned Horween leather bound with rawhide laces. It features a “FastBack” wrist enclosure with a finger “Holdster” and adjustable wrist strap. The interior palm and finger sleeves are lined with soft “Deer Tanned Cowhide”. The red/white Rawlings label and “R” circle logo are on the back of the glove to the left and right of the finger holdster. Embroidered on the top of the thumb in blue is “Nolan Ryan” in cursive writing.
According to the PSA/DNA glove authentication letter included there were three or four of these gloves manufactured for Nolan Ryan and presented to him by Rawlings in spring training. The glove represents the first appearance of an embroidered player’s name. These gloves were used by Ryan during spring training and possibly during the regular season.
