Michael Jordan didn’t just turn the basketball world upside-down when he decided to retire from the NBA. No MJ, ended up created waves in baseball when he decided to try to make his childhood dream become a reality. While Jordan’s baseball “career” was short-lived it did help him get back his passion for basketball. Jordan swung this stick when he was in the minor leagues with the Birmingham Barons during his 1994 season which saw him finish with a Bob Uecker like .202 average with three home runs and 51 RBIs. The offered Wilson bat (35″ and 33 oz.) shows a 7 1/2″ handle crack but it doesn’t affect the overall appearance. The barrel features “MICHAEL JORDAN” in block letters while the shaved down knob has “MJ 5 WC209” punched in. A moderate amount of scuff marks appear on the barrel and there are noticeable bat rack marks as well. As an added bonus, a wristband worn by Jordan is also included for the winner. “Wilson” is embroidered on the wristband in white thread. Provenance is concrete with this beauty as well. A letter from the Memphis Redbirds grounds keeper will be included. During the 1996-97 seasons, the Redbirds grounds keeper was working for the Barons and he acquired the bat from the Barons clubhouse manager and has kept it ever since. The letter states that “Both the bat and sweat band were used exclusively by Michael Jordan and as you can see this bat was cracked by a ball during that season.” Two great items from his Airness with air-tight provenance.
