The Cleveland Indians of the early ’90s needed a little veteran leadership to furnish guidance for youngsters such as Manny Ramirez, Kenny Lofton and Sandy Alomar Jr. Enter Eddie Murray. The no-nonsense Hall of Famer provided stability to the lineup and gave the young Indians a measure of leadership. Murray wore this size “48” jersey during his first year with the Indians – 1994. Light overall use is exhibited with minimal fraying and slight puckering on the verso numbers. Cleveland was one of the few teams which didn’t wear MLB’s 125 Anniversary patch on its home jerseys in ’94, deferring instead to a Jacobs Field Inaugural Season patch. (The anniversary patch did appear on their road jerseys, though.) This jersey has the Jacobs Field patch on the right sleeve and an Indians team patch on the left. All of the identifiers are applied in two-color tackle twill, and “MURRAY” is arched to a nameplate on the verso. Three tags are sewn in the tail: Russell Athletic, “1994”, and fabric content. Stamped in the bottom of the front button path is “Purchased from Cleveland Indians.” Murray signed (“8”) the front in black felt tip.
