1994 Wayne Gretzky Game-Used, Autographed All-Star Jersey w/Great Provenance, Sourced From Peter Eriksson
Out of stock
Wayne Gretzky set the standard as hockey players are concerned. Maybe he wasn’t the biggest or fastest, but Gretzky could create magic with skates and a hockey stick. The Great One held or was tied with 61 records upon retiring from the game he helped make famous. Like Jackie Robinson, Gretzky’s number has been retired by every team in the NHL.
All-Star jerseys are coveted to say the least. Although used for one game, an All-Star nod means a player is considered at the top of his game. During his lengthy career, Gretzky garnered All-Star status on 18 occasions.
This size "56" jersey was worn by Gretzky when he participated in the 1994 NHL All-Star Game in New York. After Gretzky wore the jersey it was donated by former CCM Pro Services representative Ron Yager to The Jennifer Ashleigh Foundation for sale in their sports memorabilia auction April 15, 1994. Yager donated religiously to the auction. He counted Gretzky as one of his friends and had unprecedented access to the pro teams.
The garment was purchased by Peter Eriksson at the auction. It remained in his collection for years. In fact, Eriksson put his initials "P.J.E" on the inner elbow insert for identification. Eriksson provides a detailed two-page letter with this listing. There is also a letter from Byron’s Hockeyland which vouches for authenticity. The original auction catalog and a photo of Gretzky wearing his ’94 All-Star jersey will attend.
The jersey is wonderfully constructed of lightweight mesh. A Western Conference emblem is proudly displayed over the front. The sleeves have a 1994 All-Star Game Madison Square Garden patch and "99" in two-color tackle twill. A captain’s C is sewn over the left breast as Gretzky was a captain for the mid-season contest. "GRETZKY" is spelled across the verso and applied to a tightly-cropped nameplate. The arms have been custom shorted, a staple in Gretzky jerseys during this time period.
The jersey shows light overall use, common for a one-game jersey, with a dirt stain where the neckline meets in front, five small pilling marks near the captain’s "C" and numeral softness on the side numbers.
Sewn in the collar is a Authentic Collection Center Ice label, size flag tag and CCM tag. Gretzky signed the verso in black felt tip. There is a UDA hologram (not stickered) which will accompany. The fight strap has been cut out. The rear tail has a NHL emblem and CCM identifier.
