Ozzie Smith was a fan-favorite through and through. An affable voice and accommodating presence kept him high atop fans’ lists when All-Star ballots were cast. In 15 of his 19 seasons, Smith was deemed All-Star worthy by baseball fans. Ozzie wore this jersey, a size “40”, during the 1995 All-Star Game (though he didn’t appear in the game). “O. Smith 1995 All Star Game Arlington Park July 11, 1995” is embroidered into the front tail. Also of special note is the Rawlings “The Mark of a Pro” size tag and “1992 1” swatch in the inner tail. Although the tagging is from 1992, this was not an uncommon occurrence for Cardinals All-Star gamers – that is, according to long-time Cardinal collector/dealer, Jeff Sullivan. The Cards would pull a jersey from the stadium inventory and send it with the player to the game. The unique embroidery is also from the team. Highlighting the right sleeve is a Texas Rangers All Star Game 1995 patch. “O. SMITH” is sewn to a nameplate on the verso in two-color tackle twill. The jersey shows light wear as would be expected from a one-game event. Truly, a remarkable gamer which helps celebrate one of baseball’s favorite acrobats.
