1996-97 Greg Maddux Game-Used Glove
Out of stock
Hobbyists naturally gravitate to “signature” accessories of their favorite athletes. For the fleet-footed Rickey Henderson or Lou Brock, collector preference would be their cleats. Any Pete Rose fan would crave a game-used bat; who wouldn’t want a George Brett bat consumed in pine tar? For Greg Maddux enthusiasts, the collectible of choice would be a game-used glove. While Maddux is known for his mixing of speeds and pinpoint accuracy, it’s his fielding that’s so earned him admiration. In his twenty seasons, Maddux has brought home fifteen Gold Glove Awards.
Offered is a Wilson Conform model glove used by Maddux when he was at the top of his game (1996-97). The central distinction of this glove is the fully functional Wilson Dial Fit System located on the wriststrap. A dial mechanism allowed for Maddux to pump air into the wrist for added support. (According to noted glove expert Denny Esken, Barry Bonds and Barry Larkin also favored this style.) Photos confirm Maddux wearing this style in 1996. The 12 1/2″ glove features a dual-hinge web and a finger sleeve. “GREG MADDUX” is embroidered into the thumb in yellow thread. Great pitcher use is exhibited with noticeable wear in the pocket. According to Esken, Maddux traditionally uses two gloves each season. This one is from ’96 when the tomahawk chop was the craze in Atlanta, and Maddux was frustrating almost everyone he faced.
