Description

There is something tragic about losing an athlete young. Men at the very top of their select profession, especially as gifted as Eric Turner was, are supposed to live long and prosperous lives. Turner lost his battle with intestinal cancer at the age of 31. During his 9-year career, Turner was a Pro Bowler on two occasions.
This helmet was worn by Turner during the team’s first season – 1996. Of special mention are the short-lived Ravens logo stickers on the outer shell. As the story goes, the team’s first logo was used from 1996-98 before a court ruled the organization had infringed on artwork rights which belonged to Frederick E. Bouchart. Bouchart was not credited for his artwork, which he forwarded to the team when its new Baltimore formation was announced.

The use on this helmet, both in and out, is light to moderate with a few surface scratches on the sides, suggesting it may have been an extra or a "second" with not much game wear. Built into the plastic shell is spackle paint. Descending purple stripes run from the front to the midway point before trailing off. Stickered on back are the following three labels: "29" circle dot indicating player’s number, NFL shield, gold on clear warning sticker and customized back bumper. The inside has VSR-4 padding. Turner signed ("6") the side in gold paint pen. The mask, dated to ’96, has little or no wear and the side clips are single, not double, as were most of the Ravens helmets, including Turner, for most of the season, indicating a mask change or backup helmet.
