1997 Tony Gwynn reached career highs with 17 home runs and 119 runs batted in. He batted .372 for his eighth batting title, second only to Ty Cobb (12). He led the NL in hits for the seventh time, tying Rose’s record. The 22 hits led the majors, and was both a personal and a team record. Gwynn led MLB with a .459 average with runners in scoring position. In his 16th season, he became the oldest major leaguer to reach 1 RBI for the first time.
Louisville Slugger model B267 Tony Gwynn professional model bat, with a cupped end, is uncracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use. Several ball marks include black ink transfers and white leather scuffs on the right and front barrel. Blue bat rack marks can be seen on the left barrel. Contact streaks are visible on the front and back barrel. There is a moderate coat of pine tar on the upper handle. The length (33) and weight (3.5) are written on the knob in black marker. The model number (B267C)(B267) and Gwynn’s number (19) are written on the knob and top barrel in black marker. Gwynn’s signature is written on the left barrel in blue marker.
