1998 Game-Used Ball (from McGwire’s HR #61 Game) w/Dave Parker-Signed LOA

In June 1998, Mark McGwire started to create a buzz in his dogged pursuit of 61 home runs, the record in one season. Previously, a select few had threatened the Roger Maris-held mark, only to fall short in the waning hours of the season. Not only did Big Mac catch Maris on Sept. 7 of that season, but he did so with plenty of games to spare en route to a record 70 roundtrippers. This ONL (Coleman) ball was used in the game that McGwire launched his 61st homer. Hitting coach Dave Parker confirmed its origin on St. Louis Cardinals letterhead. The signed letter states “The baseball accompanied by this letter and bearing the following inscription: ‘9-7-98 Game Used Ball Big Mac HR #61 Dave Parker’ was, as stated, used in the St. Louis Cardinals game played on September 7, 1998. I hereby guarantee the authenticity of this ball.” Parker also signed the inscription “9-7-98 Game Used Ball Big Mac HR #61” on the ball, which reveals obvious rub marks and consistent use.
