Description
Ken Griffey, Jr. was one of the most popular players in the 1990s and he shined in Seattle with the Mariners. He also inspired many things in pop culture like Nintendo games, a guest role on The Simpsons – Fresh Prince of Bel Air to name a few. He was at his absolute best when he wore this Russell Athletic size “46” vest with the Mariners at home in 1999.
When the Kid donned the offered jersey which shows great use (soft tags, thread fraying on identifiers etc.) in ’99 he ranked 93rd on The Sporting News’ list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players. This list was compiled during the 1998 season, counting only statistics through 1997. At age 29 (going on 30), he was the youngest player on the list. That same year, Griffey was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.
While playing with Seattle, Griffey was a 10-time American League Gold Glove winner, the 1992 All-Star Game MVP, 1997 AL MVP, 1998 ESPYÂ co-winner for Male Athlete of the Year, 1999 Players Choice Award Player of the Decade (by the players), and was named to the All-Century team in 1999.
The verso numbers and NOB are provided in two-color tackle twill while the front team script “MARINERS” is manufactured in three-color tackle twill which includes silver spackle twill. Tail tagging includes a Russell Athletic label, “1999” (computerized) tag, 2″ Extra Length and fabric content flag tag. Griffey signed the back in black felt tip (“9”). The jersey shows tremendous wear throughout with soiling etc.
Also included is the navy blue and cream undershirt (long sleeve but custom cut along bottom)Â he wore under the vest – it has the Mariners logo on the neck and is marked in black felt tip on the tag with his jersey number “24”. Griffey signed it in blue felt tip for added measure (“8”).
The jersey comes from his memorabilia representative Unique Sports at the time and includes their paperwork for authentication signed by Ken Griffey, Jr.
