On August 10, 2007, Manny Acosta was called up to the big leagues for the Atlanta Braves after Octavio Dotel hit the DL. He made his big league debut on August 12 pitching a scoreless inning of relief against the Philadelphia Phillies. He earned his first major league victory on September 23, against the Milwaukee Brewers. He finished the season 1–1 with a 2.28 ERA.
Acosta entered the 2008 season as a middle relief pitcher. But after Rafael Soriano and Peter Moylan were quickly placed on the DL, Acosta found himself in the closer role where he has struggled. He recorded his first major league save on April 19 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Presented is one of Manny Acosta’s game worn jerseys from the 2008 season. On the left front tail of this “Cool Base” jersey is the “Majestic” manufacturer’s label. Directly below is a white strip tag with “52 08 S1” indicating jersey size, year and set, respectively. Across the front is “Atlanta”. Player number “46” appears on back. All these numbers and letters are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. Player name “ACOSTA” appears on back in blue tackle twill on a grey nameplate. On the left sleeve is the “BEACH” embroidered patch in memory of Jim Beauchamp. Adjacent is the Majestic embroidered logo. On the right sleeve is the “SKIP” embroidered patch in memory of Skip Caray. At the rear neck is the official MLB embroidered logo patch. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. A MLB hologram is affixed for authentication.
According to the hologram, this was worn in the bullpen against the Mets on Sept. 13, 2008 (Mets won 5-0).
