The New York Jets drafted Sanchez in the first round using the fifth overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, making him the first quarterback selected by the Jets in the first round since Chad Pennington went 18th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft. To select Sanchez, the Jets traded their first and second-round selections and three players, Kenyon Coleman, Abram Elam and Brett Ratliff, to the Cleveland Browns. At the time, the selection was lauded as good value for the team and for Sanchez. Sanchez reached an agreement with the team on June 10, 2009, signing a five-year, $50 million contract, with $28 million guaranteed. It is the largest contract the Jets signed a player to in franchise history.
Presented is a game-worn unwashed Sanchez jersey from his rookie season in 2009 with the New York Jets. The green mesh jersey was manufactured by Reebok and features the “NFL Equipment” patch at the base of the v-neck collar and a sewn-in “09-44” patch on the inside back neck indicating the year and size along with the Jets inventory tagging.
Sanchez’s“6” is sewn in white tackle twill on the front and back, while the shoulder numbers are in green and a matching green nameplate with “SANCHEZ” in white lettering. A Jets logo patch is sewn on the front left shoulder while a special commemorative 50th season patch is sewn on the front right shoulder. The jersey shows good game use with dirt and grass stains and various scuff marks.
Also to note, it was autographed on the back number by Sanchez in black felt tip (“9”). It was also personalized to the person it was given to, “Bob – Best Wishes! Go Jets!
