Pittsburgh Steelers – Rocky Bleier Game-Worn White Durene Jersey (Worn Post Vietnam War with Bleier Signed Letter & Photos)

rocky bleier rings

Sports competition evokes emotion and fans have an appreciation for the players that do the work. Back in the 1970s, NFL fans were treated to a renaissance of rivalries. In the heat of the Super Bowl crusade, the Pittsburgh Steelers emerged as one of the most decorated.

However, greatness lies within one Steeler beyond the confines of his Three Rivers Stadium resume of four 1970s Super Bowl rings (IX, X, XII & XIV)  and within his overall body of work. It is of course, Rocky Bleier that deserves kudos for using his accumulated life’s wisdom to pass on the simple message of using possibility beyond motivation into action and reality.

Offered is a game-worn Pittsburgh Steelers jersey from the real-life Rocky (Bleier) that was used after he came back from his war efforts in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Once his leg injuries were rehabilitated, Bleier had a surprising revival on the football field. The milky durene jersey with emblematic yellow and black striped sleeves is aptly scarred from Bleier’s curtain call. It shows tremendous season wear with hit marks/soiling throughout but mainly concentrated on the shoulders. The relic also has more than a handful of sewn repairs and face mask markings on the front and shoulder areas. Not to be left out in the wear appreciation, apparent blood stains also make an appearance.

All of the classic black identifiers “20” are sewn on the front/back and sleeves. The sewn-on nameplate showcases “BLEIER” in classic yellow with black tackle-twill highlights. The tail tagging is also sewn on with two present including the local Olympic Sports Center (top) and Sand-Knit (below).

Collectors of Steeltown memorabilia can rejoice as this game worn jersey is arguably one of the finest locker room relics to actually surface. It is near impossible for game used collector to get their hands on anything related to the black and gold. Furthermore, this one was not obtained with a proverbial wink and nod, it has direct sourcing, right from Bleier himself. The provenance includes three photos of Bleier holding the jersey, a statement with photos of the jersey signed by Bleier in black felt tip and a photo of Bleier signing the letter. The letter reads:

This letter certifies that this jersey was worn by me as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers after my return back to the team from the Vietnam War. I hope that this jersey may enhance your collection.
