He’s now known for his clever anecdotal quips and banter on HBO’s Inside The NFL, and after years of sports television work, America tends to forget that this 6′ 5″, 190 lb. string bean of a receiver had a great collegiate career at Florida and 417 NFL catches for 6,698 yards and 46 TDs in eight short seasons. Yes, Cris Collinsworth could play, evidenced by his three Pro Bowl caliber seasons, and that man had great hands that could stretch the field.
This early-career road jersey is classic Collinsworth – lanky, but also flimsy in appearance with its combination of extra length and light-weight mesh, disheveled with the front and back numeral degradation, and those extra-length short sleeves which were a career-long trademark. The front tail sports the early ’80s Russell Athletic [size] “44” label sewn in tandem with the Koch Sporting Goods distributor tag. Overall, it’s a complete representation in that wildly gaudy style which characterized the Bengals and their eccentric receiver during the “Ickey Shuffle” ’80s. A letter, signed by the son of a former Bengals linebacker’s coach, will be forwarded to the winner.
