In 1973, Kang Rhee had a special black belt made for his student, Elvis Presley. This one is a perfect match to the one that he gave Elvis and it is of a very limited edition. It is a black fabric type martial arts belt with gold embroidery and red fabric trim. This is an authentic eighth degree black belt which was originally sourced from Rhee and includes a signed letter from him.
From the Rhee signed letter:
It is a size 8.
The gold embroidery on one end has Korean Oriental Characters that say:
First Three Charachers Say Pah-Sah-Ryu (PaSaRyu) which is the style of Martial Arts that I teach.
Second Three Characters Say: Yoo-Dahn-Hae which translates to “Black Belt Society”
Beneath that is script of his name “Elvis Presley”.
The other end of the belt is trimmed in red fabric that indicates a rank. The long strip of fabric at the end indicates Five (5) Degrees and the two small bars above it add single degrees for a total of Seventh Degree Black Belt. This red trim is the width of the belt, one piece done on each side (not one piece of fabric wrapped around the entire belt.”
Also included is a large 16×20 photo, an 8×10 signed photo also signed by fellow instructor Wayne Carmen and a copy of Presley’s 8th degree black belt certificate in the form of a printing plate. All were signed inscribed by Rhee. Both photos show Elvis wearing the type of belt presented as well.
Authentication: Belt (Rhee Signed Letter with JSA COA) and photos & certificate (all three items have JSA COA).
