Roger Clemens future HOFer had a great year for the Boston Red Sox in 1986. His 24 wins helped the team to the World Series and he won both the AL MVP and Cy Young Award.
On April 29, 1986, Clemens had the fortunate opportunity to strike out 2o in a 9-inning complete game victory. He struck out every starter for the Mariners at least once in the 3-1 victory. The record was set during the game’s final out where Phil Bradley was the victim.
Presented is a game-used baseball from that very event! The OAL (Brown) baseball shows noticeable use (soling etc.). It was inscribed by Roger on one of the side panel with the record breaking information notation, “4-29-86 – Roger Clemens vs. Seattle 20 K’s 3-1 Win – ML Record”.
The baseball originates from the personal collection of umpire Durwood Merrill and a provenance letter (on his letterhead) is included along with a two signed letter specifically for the baseball (also on his letterhead).
“This is a game ball from that Clemens signed & inscribed Roger Clemens’ 20th strikeout game on 4-29-86. It has been part of my f”amous event” ball collection since that time.”
Durwood Merrill Umpire signed two letters of provenance
