Princess Diana was so many things to so many people. Diana symbolized hope and compassion. She was a natural humanitarian as she came from the people, was one with the people and never forgot the people. “The worst illness of our time is that so many people have to suffer from not ever being loved”, she once said.
Penned ever so carefully and neatly, Princess Diana has handwritten and signed this remarkable letter to her bodyguard, Trevor Jones as a thank you note. Jones was the British bodyguard who was injured in the Paris car crash that killed Princess Diana on August 31, 1997. He suffered a serious head injury in the crash and doesn’t recall many of the details from that fateful evening.
The Kensington Palace stationary card (4″ x 6.25″) has her message on one side that continues onto the other (two-sided) in black felt tip. It was written very clearly, boldly and smudge-free by the Princess (all in her handwriting according to autograph experts JSA via their LOA), the penning remains a grade “9-10″overall. It is dated April 4, 1996 and reads:
Thank you so much for thinking of me & sending a lovely card – I was immediately touched by your kindness & just wanted you to know that. Yours sincerely, Diana
The original envelope the note was mailed in to Trevor Jones is also included with all the detailing of the address information is also in Princess Diana’s handwriting. To have something of this unique caliber, is certainly a find that is really special.
