Babe Ruth Signed Laurel Card
Out of stock
It seems that one Albert Borelli successfully completed the one-day “School of Baseball” offered at the 1939 World’s Fair. We know this because we have Albert’s ‘graduation’ card so attesting. This card – 4 1/4″ x 2 3/4″ – is pre-printed on both sides. With the Fair’s familiar logo in the upper left, it is titled “Laurel Card Academy of Sport School of Baseball.” On the reverse, we see the oath of this program, as directed by Christy Walsh. Now, we don’t know what Christy’s angle was on this deal, but one of its obligations called for a Babe Ruth signature. This one was no exception. In typical Ruthian glory, the Babe acknowledged that little Albert attended the ‘School.’ Ruth’s signature is a bold beauty – “9-10/10” in clarity and intensity. The reverse of the card bears evidence of having been once album-mounted, with residuals at all corners, yet with no meaningful impact on the front.
