Most of her signatures are found on photo’s.
Born Eleanora Holiday, the sultry singer took her stage name from Billie Dove, the silent screen star idolized by her mother. Holiday began her singing career in 1939, at the age of 17. From the time she made her first recordings with Benny Goodman in 1933, her popularity rose rapidly. Holiday performed in Europe and sang and recorded with some of the best Big Bands in the U.S., including Count Basie and Artie Shaw. In 1948, she performed her torchy ballads (“My Man”, “Mean to Me”, etc.) to a “standing room only” audience at New York’s Carnegie Hall. She died in 1959 at the age of 44. The front cover lightly has wear at the edges, otherwise fine condition.
