Billy Martin a.k.a. “Alfred M. Martin” Topps Check (PSA Graded MINT 9)
Out of stock
And for the right to reproduce his image, Billy Martin was awarded fifty bucks from Topps in 1954. We presume that this compensation corresponded to Martin’s station as card #13 in the bubble gum giant’s baseball production of that year. (Incidentally, one of those Billy Martin cards, in acceptable condition, is currently worth a little more than he was paid for the contract.) In any event, this corporate Topps check was fully executed to “Alfred M[anuel] Martin.” The medium is in VG/EX condition with a couple staple holes in both left corners, and it has a few mild creases. It’s dated May 7, 1954, and as should be hoped, it’s endorsed exactly as the payee is identified, “Alfred M. Martin.” The ballpoint endorsement is mildly encroached by the aforementioned staple holes, yet this is a “9” signature in every other respect, and a virtually impossible Martin signing in this form.
