Description
Bob Mackie began his career as a sketch artist for a French haute couture designer and costume ,aker Jean Louis, later worked with the legendary Edith Head. He is probably best known for his spectacular gowns for singers like Diana Ross, Cher and countless others.
Here in his “Josephine” composition, we see a noticeably undressed Josephine Baker. Baker, born in America, became a 1920’s singing sensation. She moved to France to further her career and became the top singer in Europe. She also worked for the French Resistance during the World War II in France. The legendary Baker died in 1975.
This incredible work of art was a tribute from one incredible living artist to another who will live forever in history. Amazing saturation of colors, dramatic lions, delightful flowers and a gorgeous Josephine all under a deep blue sky lit by just a sliver of moon. Romantic and dramatic with incredible composition. The serigraph is signed by Mackie at the bottom in pencil and is part of a limited edition 76/275. The serigraph measures 29″ x 41″ and the entire display measures 35″ x 48″.Â
