Boston Braves (43) Signed Index Cards (2 Jack Martin)

Out of stock

SKU: 26023 Category:

The following 17 listings present collections of autographed 3″ x 5″ index cards. In all, there are several hundred of these which we’ve organized by classic franchises. (There are no Atlanta or Milwaukee Braves, only Boston Braves; no Baltimore Orioles, but instead their predecesor St. Louis Browns. The same for the Philadelphia Athletics and strictly the original Washington Senators.) Nearly in their entirety, these groups are composed of non-enshrined players of yore – familiar journeymen and delightful obscurities.

Because many of these autographs were consigned as duplicates, we exercised some latitude in distributing them to several different teams, if appropriate. As an illustration, Jimmie Reese is commonly associated with the 1930-31 Yankees – however, with a couple duplications of his autograph, we also assigned him to the Cardinals, in deference of his one-year rostering there.

Throughout, the consistency of this collection is the 3″ x 5″ media. Categorically, though, the spirit of these cards is collector-oriented, and not particularly given to professional scrutiny. More specifically, many of them are signed on the lined side, many of them are personalized (for that matter, several of them bear extensive narrative), and the cards themselves aren’t necessarily of the standard white variety. Conversely, most of them are readily legible, most were placed in ballpoint, and most warrant a quality of “9-10”. For the most part, these autographs were penned in the 1960s, yet the vintage of the players’ careers gravitates to the mid-40s. Conceding that some of these made their mark in the more modern era of the ’70s, there are equally those dating to the pre-WW I period.

For the collector appreciating autographs of marginal players from the WW II years, there’s a rich bounty to be enjoyed here. And finally, we’ve highlighted several of these in bold print to indicate players of special interest or those rostered with pennant-champion teams – arbitrarily, pre-1946.
