Description

Roy Campanella is widely revered as one of the greatest catchers in the history of baseball. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1940s and 1950s, as one of the pioneers in breaking the Major League color barrier. This tribute group has two impressive pieces honoring this three-time National League MVP: trong>1) a Limited Edition numbered 10″ tall Salvino figurine (#1707/2000) that has an authentic Roy Campanella custom-cut signature affixed to its base; it is a great pose of the backstop rising to catch a pop foul that’s in NM/MT condition. trong>2) a color 8″ x 10″ photo of Campanella in a catcher’s squat that is autographed (“trong>10”) in blue marker. The photo is authenticated with a full JSA letter.

Roy’s Hall of Fame career was cut short just prior to 1958’s Spring Training when he was paralyzed in an automobile wreck, and though the Dodgers moved to the West Coast after the 1957 season, Roy never played a game there. While these Campanella pennings were placed following his tragic accident, they were nonetheless written in his hand, without the aid of an autopen or a surrogate signer.
