Description
Though well-traveled over his 19-year career, Burleigh Grimes is remembered as a mound master for the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1920s. But perhaps his most enduring epithet is baseball’s last “legal” spitball pitchers; it may be circled on the calendar that the last sanctioned spitball in the Big Leagues was thrown on September 20, 1934 – Grimes’ final appearance. In his late life, the Hall of Famer penned his autograph to this ONL (Feeney) baseball. The blue ballpoint pen signature satisfactorily approximates the sweet spot; the ball bears a small measure of toning, while the signature is cleanly legible to a strength of about “9-10”.
