Original B&W Maurice Chicago 8×10 photograph signed & inscribed “To Martha & Louis Jordon”; ( Two of the nicest people we know) Kay Martin & Her Bodyguards of burlesque performer and hotelier Circa 1950. Signatures signed in black felt pen & Signatures grade 9-10.
Kay Martin was a hotelier and ex-model, nightclub entertainer, and “party album” singer, who owned the Kay Martin Lodge in Reno, Nevada. Born in Bakersfield, California and part Cherokee Indian, modeling saw her featured in both Adam and Playboy magazines. She then met Jess Hotchkiss and Bill Elliott, who together established a nightclub act, billing themselves as “Kay Martin and Her Body Guards”. The group later added Tony Bellson on drums, and Martin became married to Hotchkiss for a time as well.
Louis Jordan was a pioneering American musician, songwriter and bandleader who was popular from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. Known as “The King of the Jukebox”, he was highly popular with both black and white audiences in the later years of the swing era.
