Circa 1960’s Original Forbes Field Turnstile

SKU: 44162 Category:

Talk about a unique piece of vintage baseball history. This remarkable turnstile was actually in place at historic Forbes Field in the 1970 season after which the grand old ballyard was dismantled. According to the consigner, a long-time Pittsburgh-area resident whom we consider to be an impeccable source, a local businessman purchased the keepsake for use in his movie theater after the farewell campaign. Manufactured by the New York-based Perey company, the turnstile served theater-goers faithfully for several years then it was made available to the consigner an antique dealer who couldn’t possibly turn it down, of course. Presumably, the museum-quality piece saw action in several seasons as evidenced by its moderate-to-heavy wear. Nonetheless, the turnstile is in splendid VG condition with no significant defects. The model has three rotating levers, and the absence of a counter indicates that it was located at a less-traveled gate for team and/or stadium employees. Suffice it to say, this one-of-a-kind memento isn’t likely to pass through these pages again.
