Description

Darrell Griffith was also known by his nickname Dr. Dunkenstein, spent his entire professional career with the Utah Jazz of the NBA. He played collegiately at the University of Louisville. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest college basketball players of all time.

Utah selected Griffith with the second overall pick in the 1980 NBA draft. The Jazz had recently moved to Salt Lake City from New Orleans, and the team needed a star to replace legendary shooting guard Pete Maravich. Griffith accepted the challenge, averaging 20.6 points per game in his first season and earning the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.

Presented is a ( ) game-worn pullover  (1980-81) warm-up from the Utah Jazz. It originates directly from a team-source and epitomizes the pro-basketball style in the 1980s. This one, in particular, can be dated to 1980-81 primarily because of the decorative 35th Anniversary patch on the sleeve.

The warm-up shows the Jazz color including a striped pattern in yellow/purple/green across the front and highlighted collar/sleeve ends in the same colors. The front also features a screened on the Jazz logo. The back of the warm-up has a sewn-on name-plate with a screened on “Griffitt”. Consistent wear from an entire season can be seen throughout, with puckering and fraying.
