“Demolition Man” Burned Suit & Hat Costume (Backlot Props)
Demolition Man is a 1993 American science fiction film directed by Marco Brambilla in his directorial debut. The film stars Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. The film tells the story of two men: an evil crime lord and a risk-taking police officer. Cryogenically frozen in 1996, they are restored to life in the year 2032 to find mainstream society changed and all crime seemingly eliminated.
Presented is a uniform costume worn in the 1993 movie “Demolition Man”. This outfit was worn in an action sequence that involved an explosion. Present is a complete outfit from the film including a full suit (coat, shirt, tie and pants) and a hat. The suit coat was made by Guess Collection and it along with the black tie features holes throughout and caked with movie shrapnel. The hat also looks like it was blown-up and it was made by Lancaster Brand (with handwritten 7-5/8 MPLL). Lastly, to complete the outfit is a white dress shirt and a matching pair of black pants.
These items originated from the company Backlot Props and Costumes. Backlot Props and Costumes were based in Burbank, California. They warehoused costumes and props from the major movie studios. The company liquidated their assets in 2010 and these were part of the acquisition of tens of thousands of original costumes and props. These are now available for the first time publicly.
