Doug Flutie’s “Hail Mary” to Gerard Phelan is probably the most famous play in college football history. What a miracle the final play of the game was as it led Flutie’s Boston College Eagles to a 47-45 victory over the Miami Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl. That day he threw for 472 yards and four touchdowns. He was the first college quarterback that season (1984) to surpass 10,000 yards and in perfect fashion won the 1984 Heisman Trophy.
In addition to the Hesiman, Flutie earned the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award and was named Player of the Year from various outlets, including UPI, The Sporting News and Kodak. In his first year of eligibility, he was inducted in to the College Football Hall of Fame in May of 2007.
Presented is a burgundy home Boston College jersey worn by Flutie during his college career (1981-94). The mesh jersey is a [size] medium and was made by Champion “Rochester New York” according to the front tail tagging. It features Flutie’s number “22” screen-printed on the front, back and sleeves in white. The back of the jersey has “FLUTIE” screen-printed in white above his number. The sleeves have white and gold stripes screen-printed and the Champion logo patch is on the left sleeve. This jersey shows moderate use throughout and is in excellent condition given its age.
The jersey comes with a LOA from MEARS (316265) for the game use, who have dated this jersey to Flutie’s full college career (1981-84) and have graded it a perfect A10. Overall, an awesome opportunity to own a jersey from one of the greatest college quarterbacks of all-time.
