Early Elizabeth Taylor Signed Contract
Out of stock
We now present this complete three-page document which is an agreement inked by the principals Elizabeth Taylor, publishers Duell, Sloan & Pierce, Inc., and MGM Studios. Young Elizabeth, of course, was under the legal guardianship of her mother, Sara Taylor. As such, Sara’s signature also appears on this contract. Duell, Sloan & Price, it seems, needed MGM’s authorization to commission Elizabeth Taylor for the publishing of a book entitled “The Adventures of Nibbles”, under the credited authorship of the young film star. When the pact was devised, the thirteen-year-old Elizabeth had secured a public persona characterized by a love of animals. “Lassie Come Home” (1943) and “National Velvet” (1944) immediately come to mind, and ‘Nibbles,’ we learn, was actually her pet chipmunk. The contract is essentially a limited right granted to the publisher whose advertising and illustration of the starlet had to be thoroughly approved by MGM. The end result was this fully executed agreement signed by MGM’s treasurer (illegible), Sara Taylor, a representative of the publisher, and the emerging superstar, Elizabeth Taylor. The pages have a few innocent staple holes at their top edge; they are routinely tri-folded, and have no meaningful damage – a beautiful display piece it would make with its “10” signature.
