Elvis Presley Karate GI Letter Kang Rhee Institute, Inc. Also incl. Signed Black Belt Certificate & (3) Signed 16×20 Photos JSA COAGo Back
Out of stock
Under Master Kang Rhee in Memphis, Elvis trained as “Master Tiger” with other students in the early-70s. Rhee and Presley were great friends during The King’s “Golden Years.” Presley had an intense interest in martial arts and was introduced to Rhee from his previous instructor Ed Parker. Elvis also became an instructor himself in the Pasaryu Karate Association.
According to the Kang Rhee letter:
This is a custom made martial arts uniform, trimmed with red satin, which is an exact duplicate of the uniform that he had made in Korea for Elvis Presley. The estimate value is $2000.
When he was in class, Elvis trained in a traditional uniform, wearing a traditional Black Belt; however, special uniforms were made for demonstrations; as Elvis considered these performances. Elvis kept all uniforms at all three locations of my school and at Graceland. I kept spme at my home for his convenience in training and demonstrating for his many friends, fans, bodyguards and, often times, my students. When Elvis asked me to travel with him, I carried his uniforms with me, so that he would be completely comfortable training wherever we might be.
This Elvis Presley Karate GI was made in white canvas and trimmed in red satin. The bottoms has red, white and blue “frog” enclosures. The Eighth Degree Black Belt was made with red satin, on one end is monogrammed in gold with Elvis Presley’s name and symbolic characters of PaSaRyu Association on the other end are eight stripes in red satin for Eighth Degree with “Tiger” monogrammed in gold, which is Elvis’ animal name in Karate. Of note, there’s some discolorations present throughout from storage (see photos).
Also included is a rare commemorative Black Belt certificate that is like the same that was presented to Elvis. It denotes the degree of 8th San in Black belt, given on September 16th, 1974. A wonderful keepsake from one of the Kings favorite passions next to singing. The certificate is 11″ x 14″. It was signed by Rhee on the Master line in black pen (“9”). Lastly included are (3) autographed 16×20 photos. One is signed by just Kang Rhee and the other two are signed by both Rhee and fellow instructor Wayne Carmen.
Authentication: For GI (Rhee signed letter) and for photos (JSA Basic COA)
