Description

Fernando Valenzuela and his unusual delivery put up 173 wins in 17 major league seasons, the majority coming for the Dodgers during the the 80s. He was known for his pitching more so than his batting (although he was no ‘gimme’ at the plate). Fernando used this bat during the 1986 season.

Following his outstanding debut, Valenzuela, nicknamed “El Toro” (the Bull) by fans, settled down into a number of years as a workhorse starter and one of the league’s best pitchers. He had one of his best seasons in 1986, when he finished 21–11 with a 3.14 ERA and led the league in wins, complete games and innings pitched. He lost a narrow vote for the Cy Young Award to the Astros’ Mike Scott.

At the 1986 All-Star Game, Valenzuela made history by striking out five consecutive American League batters, tying a record set by fellow left-handed screwballer Carl Hubbell in the 1934 contest.

It is a Louisville Slugger C243 that measures 33″ and weighs 30.2 oz. It is un-cracked with evidence of moderate use – cleat marks, hit marks on the barrel etc. His number “34” is written in black felt tip on the knob and on the top barrel in silver marker. There is also Dyno tape with “Dyno tape with “1985 Dodgers” affixed to the top barrel. It was authenticated and graded by PSA/DNA Bats GU 8.
