In 1997, Mike Piazza had a very strong offensive campaign and many can argue it was the best ever for a catcher. His MVP-type numbers included 40 home runs, 124 RBIs and a .362 batting average. But alas, it was Piazza’s last full season with the Dodgers before moving on to the New York Mets.
Presented is Mike Piazza’s full game worn catching equipment from that historic season (1997). The grey mask, chest protector and shin guards were all manufactured by Rawlings. All four items show excellent game use with soiling throughout from behind the plate. The mask has a special Rawlings plastic visor to combat the sun and shows sweat staining on the inner half of the leather. Piazza’s chest protector and both shin guards show heavy wear with dirt and rub markings from extended use. The chest protector is an [size] Adult and features his number “31” handwritten (faded on verso). Also shown is a photo style match with Piazza wearing this exact style of gear.
