Description
George Dixon is one of the all time greats. He was the first black fighter to capture a world title, defeating Nunc Wallace for the vacant bantamweight title on June 27, 1890 in London, England. He also held the World Featherweight Championship from 1891-1897 and 1898-1900. It is quite possible Dixon fought as many as 800 fights, with hundreds of unrecorded exhibitions in vaudeville halls. He would die penniless three years after his retirement. The first week of September 1892 saw the “Carnival of Champions” take place at the Olympic Club in New Orleans. On 6th September Featherweight World Champion George Dixon stopped Jack Skelly in the 8th round of their title fight. Offered here is a very rare on-site ticket from the contest. Measures approximately 2.5″ x 5″. Ticket is Encapsulated by SCG for Authentication purposes and shows very little to no flaws whatsoever. The Ticket is in the Best Condition we have ever seen from this particular fight.
