“When I was a little boy, I wanted to be a baseball player and join the circus. With the Yankees, I’ve accomplished both”, Graig Nettles.

Nettles was a power-hitting third baseman in the mold of Eddie Mathews, and his 319 homers as an AL third baseman are the record. The All-Star Gold Glover’s moment in the sun came in Game Three of the 1978 World Series when he made four dazzling stops, enabling the Yanks to win the first of four straight games, after losing the first two games in Los Angeles, to win the Series. He put great use, but no abuse, on this thirty-four inch signature model “S44” Louisville Slugger, with taped & tarred handle. The initials “J.L.” markered on the knob and may indicate teammate Joe Lefebvre also swung this bat. Lefebvre had just come up to the majors and 1980 was his only year in New York – with no endorsement yet in place, it would not be uncommon for an unselfish player like Nettles to offer a bat.
