Hank Greenberg Single Signed Ball

Purists may grumble that Hank Greenberg autographed baseballs should appear exclusively on those made for the American League. Not so. The great slugger (who was a gentleman off the field, and an crafty strategist in contract negotiations) made his history in Detroit. And that the medium for his signature should appear on an ONL (Feeney) ball is perfectly acceptable. As we should hope, Hank signed the sweet spot (9) in black Sharpie, and the ball has utterly no other qualification. Ya see, Greenberg played the 1947 season in Pittsburgh, i.e. in the National League. There, at age 36, he clouted a couple dozen home runs and led the circuit in walks. So why’d he retire? Dunno. Surely he had enough gas in the tank to make Pittsburgh a contender in ’48.
