George Gist is a professional portraitist, muralist and jazz musician (and former television-news courtroom artist) who studied painting
in college. Feb 17, 2009 was George Gist Day in Pittsburgh, by proclamation of City Council for his inspiration to the community through his art and activism. George Gist is an artist in many mediums. A muralist since 1971, he’s also a Jazz musician. Mr Gist is known for using history and culture in his art. He did a series of charcoal sketches based on photographs taken by Charles Teenie Harris, which we all know are some of the best glimpses into Pittsburgh’s African American history. Teenie Harris was the Black Leauge Pittsburgh Courier Photographer.

This is one of those inspired items inspired by a Teenie Harris photo. The art is titled, “He is Risen” and was done in charcoal and signed/dated by Gist at the bottom in a lighter color. Framed and matted 36×24.

***Note, the frame is not included with this art. It will be taken out of the frame when purchased.***
