Heavyweight George Chuvalo 1965 Fight-Worn Gloves
Out of stock
Few students of ring history are aware that Canadian heavyweight George Chuvalo plied a career of over 90 fights, and was never knocked down. He went the distance against Muhammad Ali on two occasions (losing both bouts on decision); Angelo Dundee said he was the most determined competitor that Ali ever faced…”he just kept coming at you.” In the course of Chuvalo’s career, he wore these offered gloves in a 1965 fight against Joe Bygraves. Following that contest, these gloves were prepared for mounted permanence…now bearing clean notations: “George Chuvalo vs. Joe Bygraves 10th Round Decision. London, Eng. Dec. 7, 1965” on one of the gloves, and “Trained by Theodore McWhorter…Managed by Irving Ungerman” on the other. The gloves themselves are unconventional in that their lacing is an internal arrangement…they were manufactured by Baily’s [Tannery] of Glastonbury [England]. They are partially separated at the wrist stitching, but are otherwise in EX shape.
