Description

Tremendous and rare vintage momento of Induction Day for five of the NFL’s greatest stars and pioneers. This complete ball features many of the hobby’s toughest signatures and will never be duplicated. Official Wilson football signed by ALL nine inductees and presenters at the podium in Canton, Sept 13, 1969, including: Glen “Turk” Edwards; an imposing iron man at 6’2″, 260, who played both ways for nine years with the 1930s Redskins, (died 1973), and his presenter, HOF Mel Hein (Class of 1963); fellow NFL pioneer, All-American and teammate at Washington State. Earle “Greasy” Neale; innovative coach of the Phila Eagles, who also starred at end on Jim Thorpe’s Canton Bulldogs, and hit .357 for the Reds in the 1919 World Series. (Also died 1973), and Ernie Stautner; 13 year Steelers lineman who personified the hard-nosed football which became the franchise trademark, plus their presenter, Art Rooney (HOF 1964); a revered and legendary NFL fixture who gave both Neale and Stautner their shots in the NFL. Two 49ers: Leo Nomellini; their first-ever draft choice in 1950, and a bruising pass-rusher who played evey game for 14 seasons(!), and Joe Perry, a free agent signed out of the navy who became the key man in the 49ers “Million Dollar Backfield”, and first back to gain 1,000 yards. Both ex-49ers requested the presence of Tony Morabito’s wife and daughter. The beloved 49ers team owner gave each man his start, and literally his life for the team, dying during a 1957 49ers-Bears contest. Both Morabitos signed, making this special ball utterly unique and accurate. This is not a theme-ball created over the years, but an actual piece of the fall day each player’s legacy was immortalized in the hallowed halls of Canton. Impossible to duplicate and a near mint gem.
