Bob Dylan Poster Display Signed by Artist Frank Carson – COA

Hurricane Carter was a middleweight contender who had convictions for murder. He became an international symbol for racial injustice and inspired a Bob Dylan song and film.

It was fitting for Bob Dylan to do a benefit concert for Carter. So in January of 1976 (25th), Bob Dylan and his Rolling Thunder Revue did a seven-hour benefit concert for him at the Astrodome. The star-studded bill that included appearances by Stevie Wonder, Shawn Phillips, Stephen Stills, Carlos Santana, The 1619 Bad Ass Band, Kinky Friedman, Ringo Star, Mick Ronson and Richie Havens. Isacc Hayes was the emcee and introduced Stevie Wonder to the stage.

The benefit part of the concert would later become controversial in terms of the money distribution. Presented is the original poster made for the event by artist Frank Carson. Carson is famous for his original art on concert posters and did many for Dylan and Tower Records.

Showcased on the bottom of this wonderful example is the title of the concert with details: “NIGHT OF THE HURRICANE – A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR RUBIN “HURRICANE” CARTER – THE HOUSTON ASTRODOME – JANUARY 25, 1976“.

This was the first in the series hand numbered 1/100 and signed by Carson. Very few of these were actually made because Bob Dylan did not like his portrait (he’s got a point as it looks more like Barbara Streisand). The overall display measures 13×25.  It should be noted, there’s some minor discoloration / wear along the bottom.
